April 27, 2024
The Panthers selected Sanders in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 101st overall.
ANALYSIS
Sanders was wildly considered to be one of the draft's top tight ends after Brock Bowers, so the Panthers have to be ecstatic to land the athletic pass catcher to kickstart Day 3. While Tommy Tremble and Ian Thomas have carved out specific niches with the offense, neither posses the kind of game-breaking traits that Sanders displayed as a pass catcher at Texas (fourth most yards after the catch among FBS tight ends in 2023). It wouldn't be surprising at all to see the redshirt junior immediately become the team's de-facto starting tight end as a rookie, even if it means Sanders yields plenty of blocking reps to the likes of Tremble and Thomas in specific packages.

Sanders is expected to be a second- or third-round draft pick, according to the comprehensive 2024 NFL Draft Guide compiled by Dane Brugler of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
Sanders is still rough around the edges as both a route runner and blocker, but the 6-foot-4 tight end bulked up to 254 pounds by Texas' Pro Day and ran a 4.69-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, showcasing promising physical traits to go with decent production in college. In each of his last two years with the Longhorns, Sanders exceeded 600 receiving yards. Brugler views Gerald Everett as a player comparison for Sanders and believes Sanders will be the second tight end selected in the 2024 NFL Draft after Blake Bowers.
